The article examines certain problematic aspects faced by close relatives and family members of persons missing under special circumstances regarding their rights guaranteed by the current legislation of Ukraine. At present, some legislative novelties remain inconsistent and unadapted to contemporary challenges, even considering the fact that Ukraine has been defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity for eleven years, including three years of full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation. Therefore, based on personal experience, the author attempts to highlight problematic aspects and propose solutions. Close relatives and family members of persons missing under special circumstances encounter the following issues: 1) provision of free legal aid to close relatives and family members of persons missing under special circumstances; 2) return of personal and valuable belongings, as well as documents, by the military unit to close relatives and family members of persons missing under special circumstances; 3) timely collection of genomic information from military personnel.The article provides a scientific and practical analysis of certain provisions of the current legislation in the field of protecting the rights of close relatives and family members of persons missing under special circumstances.
